I lead the Research Advanced Computing Services team in delivering services to  support  computational and data services supporting and helping to enable the diverse range of research at the University of Oregon. I have been supporting research computing since building a dumpster cluster for teaching parallel programming in 1998.  In my free time I enjoy hiking and biking.

My research background spans multiple disciplines, with years of experience applying advanced computational techniques to solve complex scientific problems. I earned my Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Oregon, where I used novel Bayesian statistical models to study merging black holes. Since then, I have applied my expertise to simulation-based inference in population genetics and AI-driven optimization in semiconductor manufacturing. I'm passionate about enabling researchers to harness computational tools effectively and actively engaging with the latest advancements in machine learning and computational research. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring Oregon’s outdoors and spending time with my partner and two cats.

I enjoy building software and systems as well as configuring or tuning the ‘glue’ that binds the HPC cluster together. It’s important to me to know both the system and its users; I value the positive interactions with all researchers on Talapas. Away from the office you’ll find me outside, likely mountain biking.

I'm the guy you'll hear shouting about scale, automation, and configuration management in the halls. I'm also a huge fan of metrics and monitoring. I like to climb big rocks and get outside whenever I can!

I enjoy building software to enable all types of research, helping make computational workflows work better, optimizing codes for high performance, and fighting against entropy to try to keep Talapas’ software situation healthy. Outside the office you can find me getting lost on the hiking trails around Oregon (despite them being very well marked), in the kitchen making a big pot of food, or behind the decks mixing music.

I take on a range of responsibilities, from building software on the cluster to troubleshooting hardware in the datacenter. I enjoy the problem-solving process, as I always learn something new. When I'm indoors, I love building and maintaining my nature aquariums. But if the weather’s nice, you’ll likely find me somewhere in the mountains!
